Our own little club opens this weekend, it's free entry all the time. It's called the red rooms, suprisingly...its above red. It has its own entrance and cut off from the downstairs crowd, we will be projecting films, music vids, 70s porn onto the walls during the night, it's all ours every weekend please come and visit. The big doors will be the entry to our club, dont go through the small ones unless you want to that isxx

From Friday 20th April we are moving upstairs at RED (like we use to, see above) and...

- its not going to be called RED, its a new indie club/late bar with name tba
- it has a separate entrance
- its on Fridays and Saturdays
- it will have rotating DJs playing good indie, rock, alt... with lots of guest DJs with a licence to play what the hell they want.
- it has a big seating area and good bogs
- IT'S FREE BOTH NIGHTS and that policy will be remaining so more money for you!
- drinks will be much cheaper than other clubs
- Doormen making sure the right people are there

that's it for now, downstairs became a little too big for us so moving to this smaller club will be perfect plus having the chance to offer free entry gives us much more freedom music wise (like our Tuesdays at Scream do)

Hope everyone can make the first week, can't wait to get up there, use to love the upstairs club so think we can get a good club/late bar going up there.

Probably my favourite night so far this year, really busy, good requests, lots of dancing and still mega cheap. Well good.

No pics this week (apart from the two above). Two rooms open next Friday. Room 2 will be some kind of 80s, 90s, dance, classics, pop mix (I havent quite decided but it's just going to be a bit of fun). Still free entry from what we know hopefully staying that way for a good while too...

This Friday all three rooms will be open at RED. Ourselves same room as usual, DJ Fraz playing rock, alternative, punk, metal, hardcore in the room 2 and the Milky lot in room 3 (techno, dance etc). There's loads of flyers floating around to get in for £2 this week plus NUS is free before 11. £1 drinks are on as usual too.

- Romvelope's 'Huw & Me', which is crazy IDM-inspired hip-hop from Norwegian/Scottish noise merchant Bjorn Hatleskog. It's a mental slab of blips and blops and it makes me feel a bit nervous when I listen to it.

- Hot Club De Paris' 'Sometimesitsbetternottostickbitsofeachotherineachother'. Sound advice. They sound like The Futureheads having a fight with Andy, Glenn and Ritch. Their debut album, 'Drop It Till It Pops' is out now and it's BRILLIANT. Get CD, buy CD, fly.

- And finally, Derby's very own My Psychoanalyst's 'Cinderella'. They'll probably be very angry that I've played THAT song but it's sooooooo good. Like My Bloody Valentine and Sonic Youth and anything inbetween, they play good, echoey rock music without wearing their influences on their sleeves. Catch them while they're still local.

Hello, you!

Tonight, Bibajames and I DJed our hearts out at The Vaults and it was lovely! Lots of new faces thanks to a new Uni year and some excellent requests. Big up to the guy who wanted Trail of Dead and Shellac. Both were happily played. My usual co-DJ, Tara, is currently not with us due to going back down to Uni in sunny Oxford. She'll be back soon with a big old load of pop and riot grrrl though, no doubt. :)

I'll probably stick our playlist up on my blog at some point, but I wanted to dedicate this entry to two special, special artists that we played tonight.

Last Monday night, I went to see the fabulous Love Is All, who I've gushed about loads on here. They were brilliant, as I hoped. What I DIDN'T expect, was to find such an amazingly fantabulous band filling the support slot! Jakobinarina are from Iceland and are aged between sixteen and nineteen. They've just signed to Rough Trade who have released their first seven-inch, 'His Lyrics Are Disastrous'. It's a wonderful slab of poppy goodness that'll have you grinning from ear to ear. Especially the keyboards. But don't take my word for it! Check out the entire EP at their MySpace. Then buy it from iTunes or the Rough Trade site.

Just as poppy and just as special is the new EP from Derby's very own Jyoti Mishra AKA White Town. It's only out in Sweden, the land of REAL pop, but you can mail-order it from the folks at Heavenly Pop Hits or download the title track from iTunes. I played the second track from the A-side, Melissa Joan Hart and I hope EVERYONE loved it. It's a heart-warming dedication to the star of Clarissa Explains It All and Sabrina the Teenage Witch. Brilliant!

So, another night done. I'll try and find some more new surprises for next Monday, and I'm sure Bibajames will give us all something to smile about.

Thanks to The Strand Arcade for opening the newly refurbished Vaults yesterday. Hope you all got your stamp at the bar which entitles you to cheaper entry to RED, if not get it next week.

Next week is the first week of RED's pre-bar at The Vaults. If you go there you can get into RED for £3 by getting stamped at the bar, also most drinks are £1.50 and a live band is down there every week starting off with The Strand Arcade.

We are giving The Vaults a long overdue makeover. New stage, PA, lights, paint job, some new furniture, loads of stuff. All will be finished by the 28th July for the opening night as the pre-bar to RED. Lots of bands already booked and free entry. XIU XIU - Vulture Piano

The new Xiu Xiu album is my favourite album that I've heard this year. It's absolutely the best thing in the world if you have any interest in either electronics, love songs or anything slightly out of the ordinary. This song is probably my favourite thing they've ever done.

iFORWARD RUSSIA! - Thirteen

The opening track to iForward Russia!'s album, 'Give Me a Wall' sends shivers down my spine every time I hear it. Shouty, angular, art-rock with passion. Please, please buy their album.

Tuesday night was absolutely amazing! Three of the best bands that Derby has, FOR FREE in a lovely, friendly venue... Mmmmm, it's the stuff dreams are made of.

Costanza amazed all with their lush layers of sound and seem to be getting better and better. They sound like Yo La Tengo making love to Explosions In The Sky. Lovely! Chris Martin showed everyone that one guitar plus one drumkit DOESN'T ave to be as bland as The White Stripes. They rock like Lightning Bolt, but with the thrash replaced with FUNK. And finally, the math-rock GODS, You Slut, played absolutely perfectly and made this gig my favourite time that I've seen them. They'll hopefully have something new out soon, but until then, please please buy their Grit Eyed and Greasy Tailed EP. It's fucking awesome.

And it was a certain someone's 21st.... Hooray!

Coming up on Wednesday at First Floor with a performance from Lost Alone and The Strand Arcade. We will be doing a spot of DJing throughout the night aswell.

We can now confirm that our second single will be 'Unleash the Sands of All Time. It'll be released late July and will be on two formats: CD single and 7" vinyl, each will have exclusive b-sides.

The video for the single will be shot in Derby over two days. Day two will be a performance shoot so WE NEED YOU TO COME ALONG!!!!

May 24th - First Floor is where the rock action will be taking place. The first part of the night will be the band set up amongst the crowd playing, then we'll play a set for you as a thank you for coming along. It all kicks off from 7pm and it's FREE to anyone 14+ years old.

Lots of lovely new tracks tonight! 'Yes/No' is the first track of the new Futureheads album, and 'Bad Education' is a tapdance-tastic stomper from the new Tilly And The Wall record. Both albums are out next week, and I URGE you to go get them. Tilly And The Wall are reaqlly poppy/folky business but with tapdances instead of a drummer. Seriously, they're dead good. Get!
